JTI UK: Interiors, Ballymena

Completed
2011
Budget
£125k – £270k
Location
Ballymena
Client
JTI Gallaher Ltd

As part of the multi-phase masterplan development undertaken for JTI Gallaher’s main UK production facility site in Galgorm, Ballymena, we undertook a number of smaller scale interior refurbishment projects to various areas of the site, including the Reception/lobby area, Restaurant, R&D, Café and Snus room.

In common with the other phases, designs were developed and delivered within the constraints of the existing interior, with minimal disruption to the facility and on a very restricted budget. The works involved the reconfiguration of spaces to optimise the potential of the buildings and meet current building regulations, particularly in terms of accessibility and fire escape.

Where possible the existing fabric, such as the original maple floor in the 1950’s restaurant building, was refurbished and re-used. A strong conceptual approach was employed to inform the design approach – materials, colours and textures were chosen to create fresh, vibrant interior spaces which remain sympathetic to the retro architecture of the original building. The signature JTI green colour was used throughout the various parts of the building to define and reinforce their refreshed corporate identity.
