As part of the multi-phase masterplan development undertaken for JTI Gallaher’s main UK production facility site in Galgorm, Ballymena, we undertook a number of smaller scale interior refurbishment projects to various areas of the site, including the Reception/lobby area, Restaurant, R&D, Café and Snus room.
In common with the other phases, designs were developed and delivered within the constraints of the existing interior, with minimal disruption to the facility and on a very restricted budget. The works involved the reconfiguration of spaces to optimise the potential of the buildings and meet current building regulations, particularly in terms of accessibility and fire escape.
Where possible the existing fabric, such as the original maple floor in the 1950’s restaurant building, was refurbished and re-used. A strong conceptual approach was employed to inform the design approach – materials, colours and textures were chosen to create fresh, vibrant interior spaces which remain sympathetic to the retro architecture of the original building. The signature JTI green colour was used throughout the various parts of the building to define and reinforce their refreshed corporate identity.

“White Ink Architects were always happy to engage in matters of minor detail, and that underpinned the success of this development.”
“We approached White Ink Architects following the viewing of their project – The Hill House. We felt that their careful response to working with and integration to existing buildings would be key to the success of our project. We are delighted with the openness of the new glazed extension and its ability to cross the divide between the internal and external realms.”
“White Ink Architects stood by their concept throughout design development and were able to demonstrate value when aspects of the design were challenged… such conviction has paid off… Project deliverables have met programme and quality targets.”
“They combine design flair with technical knowledge and bring the much needed element of ‘common sense’ to the design and build process.”
“They work in a collaborative and responsive way showing consideration and understanding of our functional needs, and our financial and time constraints.”
“They are always pro-active and prompt in dealing with the day to day issues that occur on a project.”
“…the refurbishment of the Whitehall Building is a feather in the cap for Sandy Row… its refurbishment breathes new life into the area.”
“White Ink Architects provided a unique and strong visual solution to this project working closely with our teams to ensure functionality was not compromised.”
